Lower Waitaki Golf Club

The finals of the club championships were played on Sunday 3 May in splendid conditions.
Winners Men; Junior B Bob Telfer, Junior A Rex Wollstein, Intermediate Don Elliot.
              Women  Bronze II Marina Loper, Bronze I Isabell Bond, Silver Claudette Mallinson.
Senior Men final Between brent Maw & Andy Wraight was deferred due to an injury.

 Heineken Trophy

The Lower Waitaki Club, in the annual interclub fixture with Denfield club on 19 April, was successful in winning the Cup after a very close  8.5 to 6.5 result.

Hi Folks.

We are now in the midst of our busy golfing calendar. We have had a couple of bus journeys, in the middle of the club championships and preparing for the 25^th Waitaki 6000.  The women held a very successful “Fashion Parade” and they retained the Lowe Cup.

Club Championships

It is pleasing to see larger field competing in this years Club Championships. The semi finals are scheduled 18 April and the finals for Sunday 3 May.

Srixion Pairs

Due to adverse weather conditions this event was postponed and is now scheduled for Sunday Aug 2.

 Waitaki 6000

 Entries for 2009 opened in early March and we now have a full field of 144 players. We will need a few reserves to cover for any withdrawals between now and early May. A list of players is posted on our web site.  We are looking for volunteers to assist on the day and also for donations of goods etc suitable for raffle prizes.  These can be left in the club house.

Mystery Bus Trip. Sunday 8 March 09.

A great turn out joined in the mystery bus trip to Maungati. Most found the course quite challenging.

Chisholm Park Visit 29 March

Thirty two players travelled to Chisholm Park for the club exchange. The weather was perfect but home team managed to win the trophy for 2009. Aggregate of top 20 cards was CP 728 and LW 641. We have home advantage in 2010.

New Club Website.

Our new web site is amassing a number of “hits”. On the website we have listed the Waitaki 6000 players, club champ draw and a number of other golf activities.  The draw for the 6000 will be posted on this site during the week leading up to the tournament.

Jim Bell Series

The annual triangular series between N Otago, Waitoa and LW mid week men players had the first round at Waitoa on 8 April. Results after round 1: LW 227, NO 226 WP 223. Round 2 is at NO on 8 July.

Women’s Golf.

Our women’s team retained the Lowe Cup in March after the Grand Vue team defaulted the scheduled fifth challenge. Lower Waitaki will now be engraved on the trophy and the women will host the next two teams at LW for the next round of challenges.

Grounds.

The observant will have noticed the demise of a couple of gum trees, one on 9 and the other on 14. Both had contributed to the significant debris which fell on the green or pond on 9. There should be some excellent fire wood available later as a result.  We have had a few problems with the irrigation system but hopefully we are getting on top of it. The greens have now all been spiked and sanded and the heavy watering should set them up well for the future. 

New Zealand Golf Nation.

There is still the opportunity for members to introduce new members to the club under the ‘Member gets Member’ promotional campaign.

Subscriptions.

Subscriptions for 2009 are due. You must be financial to compete in any club trophy competition. If you wish to pay your sub by instalment make arrangements with the Club Treasurer Lois Wotton.

The annual interclub fixture was held on Sunday 29 March at Chisholm Park in splendid conditions. Unfortunately LW passed over the trophy to Chisholm Park for safe keeping until the next meeting at LW in 2010.
